Adaptive Sound Experience

Audi is embracing a paradigm shift in the design of human-centric cars. Through the concept of "Personal Sphere," Audi places human emotions and personalized experiences at the core. The vehicles are crafted from the inside out, creating a space where users can truly feel and connect with their surroundings. At the OMR Festival, Audi is bringing this future to life, inviting users to step into their own personal spheres.

In close collaboration with the event agency Planworx and animation studio Woodblock, we have developed an adaptive music and sound design system for an immersive audiovisual experience.

Adaptive Soundscape

Following the principle of the Personal Sphere, the experience is designed as an adaptive system. This allows the audiovisual environment to adjust to the emotions of the individual visitors, providing a personalized experience.

The emotional state of the visitor is determined through the use of pulse measurement and face-tracking data. Accordingly, we have developed a stem system mechanism that allows the soundscape to respond to the individual emotional state of the visitors. In the "Arousal A" state, the soundscape becomes more energetic, while in the "Arousal B" state, the soundscape becomes calmer. Implemented in Unreal Engine a complex network of music stems and sound sets provides the basis for individually triggered sound experiences.

Sound of the Future

The Audi experience came to life through musical “musical world building”. The music fuses electronic and organic sounds, as well as sound design based on nature and synthetic sounds to create a progressive ambient sound aesthetic.

Visitors drive through four hyperreal worlds

Surround Sound Zones

To enhance the sense of immersion, we have divided the exhibition space into multiple sound zones. The soundscapes within the Personal Sphere were mixed for surround sound. An ambient version of the soundscape was created for the outside space of the experience.

Through the experience, visitors could sense how Audi centers the driving experience around people and their emotions in the future.
